Opportunities to taste that "finger-lickin' good" chicken at Kentucky Fried Chicken are still plentiful. This "How-dee-licious" chicken chain is no longer in business. The former chicken restaurant on 35th Avenue is now a Streets of New York and the one on Seventh Avenue is now home to a Filibertos. The original architecture of the restaurant chain is still visible at 7805 N. Named for the country comedian, the signs for these stores were topped with the image of Minnie Pearl, wearing her signature floral hat with dangling price tag. ![]() Minnie Pearl's Chicken had four locations in Phoenix for a short time during the late 1960s and early '70s. The chain with the catchy jingle, "Don't cook tonight, call Chicken Delight," opened additional restaurants in the early 1960s but is no longer around today. Those who preferred roast beef had Arby's or Roy Rogers.Ĭhicken Delight was the first of the chicken chains to appear in Phoenix in the 1950s. Chickens lovers could enjoy Chicken Delight, Minnie Pearl's Chicken or Kentucky Fried Chicken. Burgers weren't the only fast-food options for people in Phoenix from the 1950s to early '70s.
